You Can Do Anything You Set Your Mind to | How to Believe In Yourself
We all know that one guy. The one who is always confident in himself, no matter what the situation. He’s always positive and upbeat, and he seems to be able to do anything he sets his mind to.
You may look at him and think to yourself, “How does he do it? How can he be so sure of himself?” Well, the truth is, anyone can be like that if they set their mind to it. All it takes is a little bit of self-belief. In this post, I’m going to share with you some tips on how to believe in yourself and achieve your goals. So read on!
Why it’s important to believe in yourself
It’s important to understand that if you want to accomplish anything in your life, believing it can happen is the first step. Having the belief that you can do something will push you through the journey and keep you going strong. If you trying to accomplish a goal, telling yourself along the way that it is impossible, will discourage you from wanting to go any further. This can create doubt, and mental barriers, and decrease your confidence and self-esteem. There’s saying popular saying that goes like this:
“Those who think they can do something and those who think they can’t are usually both right.”
This is because the focus of your mind shifts. There’s a term known as “target fixation” which basically means whatever you’re focused on, you tend to drive towards. Now, this is a term used in driving school to get you to focus on the road instead of looking at an accident, but the same rule can be applied here. If you have a path to take and an end goal you can’t see, it takes belief to get you there. You have to believe that it’s there and that you can get there one way or another. This simple mindset shift increases your odds drastically, opening your life into new doors you might not have seen in the past.
Growth vs. Fixed Mindset
A growth mindset focuses on learning and improving how we think and act. People with growth mindsets progress much faster and often find joy in challenges. They embrace change and the opportunities that it can bring into their life. When we set our minds to grow, it can help to eliminate things like ego to push past barriers we may have had in the past. Always learning and improving is the main goal when trying to adopt a growth mindset.
A fixed mindset is choosing to stay how you are and can keep you stagnant. It’s common to have a fixed mindset since it brings comfort. The unknown is often intimidating, but this is how we grow and learn. Believing that you can’t change or that you are a certain way will keep you there. If you can learn and understand you can do anything you set your mind to, your life will change for the better.
How to believe in yourself
Now that we know why it’s time to learn how.
Take Action
Like most skills, self-belief is something you learn and grow. This isn’t something that should be focused around “faking it till you make it.” I’ve found much success in simply taking action in whatever I’m trying to achieve and began to slowly progress as time went on. When you’re taking the necessary action, you can find it almost difficult to believe that you won’t get there. There’s this feeling of inevitability. Like you know it’s going to happen eventually and can’t see it anyway else unless you just stopped trying.
Make a list of your strengths and accomplishments
There’s a philosophy known as “the law of attraction.” It basically states that what you focus on is what you attract. So if you focus on the positive things in your life, you’ll attract positive things. And vice versa with negative thoughts. When you list out what you’re good at and what you’ve accomplished in the past, you’ll get a better understanding of what you can do. This is what you should focus on when believing in yourself. Focusing on what you’re good at will help you want to improve these skills and create more belief as you get better and better.
Practice positive self-talk
Self-talk or “intrapersonal skills” is very important for self-belief. The way you talk to yourself in your head can have a huge impact on the performance and outcome of your work. If you’re constantly telling yourself “you suck” or something along those lines, then you’ll start to believe that you do. You’re always taught to watch what you say to others, but not so much to yourself. Telling yourself you’re great, you’re successful, etc. will help you start to believe you are.
Surround yourself with people who believe in you
Similar to positive self-talk, it can be difficult to accomplish tasks by hearing negative comments. When you surround yourself with people who think you aren’t capable of doing certain things, you can’t help but question yourself. Surround yourself with people who make it easier to do great things and make you want to accomplish your goals and ambitions.
It’s much better to be alone than to be with the wrong people.
Ultimately, you can’t control what people are going to say to you. The only voice you control is your own. It’s not always easy to let go of certain people in our lives, but it is crucial. So better to choose isolation than having a large number of negative friends.
Visualize yourself achieving your goals
“Seeing is believing.” Obviously, in this case, the goal isn’t physically seen yet. The best way to see it is to visualize what you imagine it to be like. Imagine yourself scoring that goal. Imagine yourself creating financial freedom and wealth. Imagine yourself looking in the mirror proudly. You have to see in your mind what you want and go after it. The more specific the dream, the stronger direction you’ll have when reaching after it. As mentioned, the goal isn’t physically seen yet, so you need to visualize and create that image in your head. Manifest it until it becomes a reality in your life.
Final Thoughts
We all want to achieve success. Whether it’s financially, physically, or even emotionally. As humans, we have dreams and ambitions to get there, but if we want to reach that someday, the first step is to believe that we can.
Taking action and acknowledging our strengths will help get us there. How we talk to ourselves and who we choose to listen to will encourage us to keep pushing. Visualizing the dream will give us a direction to take. With the right mindset, anything is possible. Do you believe it?
